Central Contra Costa Sanitary District’s (Central San) mission is to protect public health and the environment by collecting and treating wastewater, recycling water for reuse and promoting pollution prevention.  Central San has now been awarded 21 National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ Peak Performance Platinum Awards and the California Water Environment Association Large Treatment Plant of the Year Award for 2008 and 2012 and Collection System of the Year for 2007 and 2012. In addition the District was awarded its 14th consecutive Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting; the District won awards for its Safety Program from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) and the Water Environment Foundation (WEF); the National Purchasing Institute’s annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award; both the Sustainable Design and People’s Choice Awards from the Walnut Creek Action for Beauty Council for the District’s new Collection System Operations facility; and the Transparency Certificate of Excellence from the California Special Districts Association.

Recent Awards:

National Association of Clean Water Agencies’ (NACWA) Peak Performance Platinum Award – 21 Years
This award recognizes the District’s processing of more than 30 billion gallons of wastewater last year without a single permit violation. The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit demands strict adherence to stringent Federal, State, and regional water quality requirements. Meeting 100% compliance means Central San is achieving its ultimate goals of protecting the environment and keeping pollutants out of the Bay.

 

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States & Canada’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting - 18 Years
This is the 18th consecutive year that Central San’s Finance and Accounting Division staff has received this award, given for the team’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and finance recording.

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States & Canada’s Distinguished Budget Award for FY 2018-19 Budget Document
This award is presented for documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize governmental entities that achieve these goals.

 

California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO)

CAPIO is a membership organization serving more than 500 professionals throughout the public sector who engage communities through honest and transparent communication. CAPIO Excellence in Communications awards honor outstanding public agency information and communications programs.

National Purchasing Institute’s Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award - 7 Years
Central San’s Purchasing and Material Services team won this award again in 2017. This is the seventh time the team has received this award, which recognizes organizational excellence in procurement, with emphasis on innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership. Central San is one of only 46 government agencies in California, and one of only 31 special districts in the United States to receive this award.
